DEALEY DIVISION

       U.S. NAVAL SEA CADET CORPS.

Stamford CT

The Navy League Cadet Corps (ages 10 1/2 - 13) and Naval Sea Cadet Corps (ages 14 - 17) are for boys and girls who are interested in the sea and ships, and our nation’s seagoing services with a desire to learn about the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. The cadets are authorized by the Secretary of the Navy to wear Navy uniforms appropriately marked with League Cadet or Sea Cadet Corps insignia. Dealey Division was the first Sea Cadet Unit established in New England and has been serving local youth for over fifty years. The division was named after a WWII legend in the submarine service, Commander Samuel Dealey, who was awarded the Medal of Honor, Four Navy Crosses, and the Silver Star. Both he and his crew were lost at sea on the submarine USS Harder, which was built here on the Connecticut shore in Groton.

MISSION STATEMENT

IT IS THE INTENT OF DEALEY DIVISION TO ASSIST IN BUILDING STRONG CHARACTER IN TERMS OF HONESTY, RELIABILITY, RESPONSIBILITY, SELF RESPECT, RESPECT FOR OTHERS, SELF RELIANCE, AND KINDRED VIRTUES.

DEVELOP PRINCIPLES OF PATRIOTISM AND GOOD CITIZENSHIP.

ENCOURAGE AND AID AMERICAN YOUTH IN DEVELOPING AN INTEREST AND SKILLS IN BASIC SEAMANSHIP AND ITS NAVAL, COAST GUARD AND MARITIME ADAPTATIONS.

PROVIDE BASIC MILITARY TRAINING AS A FOUNDATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND EXERCISE OF

LEADERSHIP, ORGANIZATIONAL AND TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS.

Since 1958 the Naval Sea Cadet Corps has been committed to providing American youth with a drug and alcohol free environment to foster their leadership abilities, broaden their horizons through hands-on training and guide them to becoming mature young adults.

Dealey Cadets participate in many local community projects. In an age when opportunities to experience what most teenagers only dream about, Cadets have had opportunities to work in a Naval Hospital with Naval Medical personnel, fly on a U-H1 Huey,  learn how to survive in the field, attend Air training, complete Port operations training, train with local Coast Guard units, welcome the USS Winston Churchill to Stamford, and participate in the Fleet Week Celebrations aboard Naval Ships in New York Harbor.

In short they are enjoying an adventure of a lifetime
